Winter weddings can brighten up the short days of the season. The natural beauty of seasonal flowers, warm candlelight and Christmas-inspired sparkle all can be incorporated into beautiful centerpieces. You don't need to break your budget, either. 'Tis the Season

You don't want the winter holidays overshadowing your wedding, but a subtle addition of seasonal decorations makes things merry and bright. Give guests custom Christmas ornaments as favors and hang them from willow or evergreen boughs arranged in decorative vases. Fill tabletop sleighs with boughs, ornaments or flowers. Another way to festively display favors features a gift box centerpiece. Stack three or more wrapped boxes of varying sizes, smallest to largest, and glue the boxes together. Fill the top box with flowers or candy. Glue ribbon around the height of the entire box tower, leaving the top box open. Add a giant bow on top of the lid of the top box. Place similarly wrapped favor boxes around the tower. Round out the centerpieces with tea lights.

Winter Wonderland

Winter may not be known for its flowers, but it does have its own seasonal plants. Winter plants bring a more unconventional beauty to the table. Pussy willow and evergreen branches can display Christmas lights or serve as a base for floral arrangements, while poinsettias, snowdrops and and winter jasmine are appropriate as featured blossoms. Accent the floral arrangements with holly sprigs, cranberries or pine cones. For a more sparkly look, spray-paint small branches or pine cones with white or metallic paint.

Dinner By Candlelight

Candles work well as centerpieces at any time of the year, but they can bring an even cozier feel when temperatures are colder. One way to make luminaries is to place a glass jar in the middle of a piece of tissue paper. Bring up the corners, wrap them around the edges of the jar, and tie the paper in place with a ribbon. Place a tea light at the bottom of the jar. Another way to bring candles to the table is to fill a paper bag with two inches of sand, roll the top edges down an inch, and place a votive candle in the sand. Lanterns and clusters of mismatched candlesticks put on tables also provide a warm glow to a reception.
